Managing a Multicultural & Multigenerational Workforce
Workplace demographics now span four generations, meaning that 20-year old new hires can find themselves working side-by-side with colleagues who are older than they are by 50 years (or even more). The latter frequently results in drops in productivity and comradery among organizational talent. It is common for productivity to take a precipitous drop! The rich mix of generations in the workplace can be attributed to several factors: Labor shortages affected the rise in the average retirement age. Moreover, a demographic dichotomy between emerging and developed countries exist: developed economies face an aging workforce, emerging economy workforces are much younger; meaning globalization has brought a new multicultural aspect to organizational talent accompanied with differences in motivations and work habits.
